Wiley: 10 Feb 1944 (handwritten)

Mrs. Wiley, who was in her 88th year, was the youngest and also the last member of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McAfee pioneer residents of the 7th line of Euphrasia. They when she was a little girl from the Township of King. In young womanhood she married William Wiley of New England district, whose death occurred about twenty years ago. To them were born eight children who all survive with the exception of William, who passed away a number of years ago.

Those living are, Sam of Heath, Alta; James of Fairmount; Robert, Markdale; Mary, Mrs. John Lawson, R.R. #3, Markdale; Annie, Mrs. Lyons, Wyoming; Nancy, Mrs. Aaron Birch, Strongfield, Sask; Alma, Mrs. H. Oathie, of Markdale; who was her mother s constant companion and who of all will miss her most.

Mrs. Wiley was deeply religious. She was formerly a member of the Methodist Church, but during recent years she attended the Gospel Workers Church.

The funeral, which was largely attended took place on Sunday afternoon. Following a short service in the home, the regular service was held in the Gospel Workers Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. David Harris. Rev. A. Mills of Shelbourne, a former minister, preached a helpful gospel sermon. Misses Mabel and Edith Betts, of Rock Mills added to the spirit of the service. They had sung in the previous service in the home.

The remains were laid to rest in the mortuary chapel in the public cemetery. There were many beautiful floral tokens from members of the family and friends.

The pall bearers were: Lloyd, Maurice and Ross Wiley, and Norman Lawson, grandsons, and Elgin McFadden and Harry Cothier.

Among those present were Mr. Stanley McAfee of Hanover, and
Rev. A. Mills and Mrs. Mills of Shelburne. Weather and road
conditions prevented various relatives from being present.
