Carl "Charles" Pegelo Jack, I have Peglers in my family of Pampow that did the same thing, found them both ways. The town mayors at Wendischhagen used the Pegler spelling but most of the time they used the original form at Pampow. Most of the surnames I see here were connected to my Teterow family during the 1600 and 1700s. I was told that Pegler has a very good chance of being a variation of the family name. So pick up all Peglers [any variation].
I guess I will tell you now, have you realized that you had probably found the connecting members of the Canada Pegelo Family? They had always claimed the mother was Voss or something similar. I think Christopher Friedrich Paegelow and Dorothea Charlotte Voth….Voth being the spelling in the German Name Lexicon….are the parents of Carl, Sophia, Rachel, and 6 others that did not leave Germany or went to other areas. Christina Stübing was Dorothea’s mother and a widow on the 1819 MS Census. Besides Dorothea and Christina, there were only 3 other Voth’ in the whole MS census!

Exerpt:
Stringer was know as "the Bishop who ate his boots." He was the Anglican Bishop of the Yukon from 1905–1931. In 1909, he and a companion became lost in an ice fog on the way back to Dawson. Food ran short. The men scraped the hair off their sealskin boots and boiled them, then drank the broth, which Bishop Stringer said, "was tough and stringy, but fairly satisfying." Eventually the men were found. The story inspired a scene in Charlie Chaplin’s movie The Gold Rush.3
