John Rudoph "Krinke" Krienke TO ALL THE GRAND-CHILDREN, (in writing Vernice)

As I have passed the 72nd. anniversary of my birth it may interest you to know something about your ancestors.....My Father, Michael emigrated, from Hermannsdorf, Province Posen, Germany in 1864 together with his sister, Henregetta, (Mrs. William Paschke) her husband and family and sister Charlotte, who married August Boelke. They settled Southeast of Blue Earth, Minnesota. . . . . My Father worked for farmers and in Mankato. He walked as far as Waseca and back, drove oxen to Redwing with a load of wheat. He bought a homestead—right on a 160—acre farm in section 26 of Blue Earth Township. That part of Minnesota was mostly praire with woods along the Blue Earth river and along the creeks. At that time very little of the land was being farmed; there were no tractors, no combines, no binders. The grain was cut with a selfrake and bound by hand with straw, and it was done this way until four years after I was born.

In the fall of 1865 my Mother, Carolina Lange, and her sister Rosina came from Germany. Her sister died a week later! On November 5, 1865, my Parents were married. They were the third couple to get a marriage license in Faribault County, Minnesota. They lived in one room of the George Ahrends house during the first winter. It was a winter with 26 real blizzards. They moved to their farm in the spring of the year with two oxen, a wagon, a plow, a drag, and a cow. For a while they lived in a sod house; gophers and snakes crawled in and out. There were no roads. The closest railroad was at Owatonna, and it was there that my Father hauled his first wheat. A year or two later that railroad got to Mankato and finally to Delavan and Winnebago. I can well remember when the first railroad trains got to Blue Earth. One time I road along to town; I sat in one front corner of the wagonbox. They drove within a half a block of the train; was I scared! Both horses stood on their hind feet.. . . . .The first Lutheran Congregation was organized in Faribault County six miles Northeast of Blue Earth in 1868. In the twelve years following they were without a Pastor about one half of the time. They conducted services when they had no Pastor by having a layman read a sermon from a book. My Father conducted services at home when the weather was bad. He also conducted morning and evening devotions.

Your Great—grand—Father, Christoph Mathews, your Grand—mother*s Father, came from Province Posen, Germany about 1856 to Princeton, Wisconsin. He worked in Wisconsin and on a steamboat on the Mississippi River. Your Great-grand—mother, Wilhe1mina Domes also came to Wisconsin; she came with her sister, Mra Christoph Klatt. Your Great—grand—Parents were married in Marquette County, Wisconsin, December 28,l862. They moved to Faribault County in 1864 or l865. They lived in section 2 of Elmore Township. Father Mathews was a devout Church member; he was an Elder in the Emerald Township Congregation and also later in the Blue Earth Congregation. He did more for the Lutheran Church in Faribault County than anyone else.

Province Posen is now part of Poland and today is in the Russian zone. Any relatives we had there had to flee to Germany on a few hours notice and are starving to death now. When we read about the suffering in Europe today we know that it was by the grace of God that your Great-grand—Parents came to Minnesota where today we can worship our God without any interference from our Government and with where we can tell others about our Savior as He is revealed in the inspired Word of God. . . . . . . . The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. .

PASCHKE - At his home in Blue Earth City township, on the evening of August 18, 1888, of cancer of the stomach, William Julius Paschke, aged 63 years and 21 days. Mr. Paschke was born July 28, 1825, at Czellenzin, Schwetz, West Prussia. He came to this country in 1864, and settled upon the farm on which he died. His illness began a year ago and he soon knew that he was not long for this world and with Christian fortitude bore his suffering unmurmuringly. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. Simon at the German Evangelical church near his place Monday forenoon, and was attended by an immense throng of relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Mr. Paschke had been twice married , and was the father of eighteen children, eleven of which, with his second wife, survive him. He had been a hardworking, honest, and economical man and had accumulated a fine fortune which he recently disposed to by deed and will, to his children. His farm has been a familiar figure on our streets for nearly a quarter of a century and his pleasant smile and words of cheer will be greatly missed.

Gustav Paschke married Katherine Bingel on 22 May 1890, at 232.1
Gustav Paschke died on 5 July 1919, at Blue Earth Twp., Faribault Co., MN. GUSTAV PASCHKE CALLED
Gustav Paschke died at his home on South Main street in this city, Saturday, July 5th, at the age of 55 years and 7 months after a few weeks illness from heart disease. Mr Paschke had been troubled for a great many years at times with this disease, but the strength to battle with its recurrence gradually diminished and was unable to cope with the last attack. Mr. Paschke was born in Germany but came to this country while yet a mere babe, with his parents, and had always lived in this community. He retired from active farm life about seventeen years ago and moved into town. He is survived by a wife and four daughters, an aged mother, five brothers and four sisters. In his life there were few cloudy days - his was a life of sunshine, and no matter under what condition he might be laboring, he was never known to complain. To the bereaved wife, daughters, mother and other relatives the sympathy of this community is extended. Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Brandt of the Evangelical church.
Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Krinke of Lamberton, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tabett, and Leonard Tabett, of Amboy, and Herman Richter, of Elmore.
