Hillsboro (Albert Co.) - John DRYSEN, who for some time has been living with Hensley DRYDEN, his nephew, at Weldon, had la grippe a few weeks ago from which he never recovered, yet was about the house and out on Friday eve. He sat reading, retired and seemed to be sleeping when Mrs. H. Dryden went to his room about 7 a.m. on Saturday morn. A little later she went to call him and found him dead. Rev. John C. Berrie and the Masons conducted the funeral services at the house and grave.

Hillsboro (Albert Co.) March 17 - John DRYDEN, who has resided in Hillsboro all his life and who has been living with his nephew, W.E. DRYDEN for the last two years, was found dead in his bed today by Mrs. W.E. Dryden. Though deceased had been in failing health for some time yet his sudden death so surprised other members of the family that they requested Dr. Marven to hold a coroner's inquest, which was done this eve., the following jury being empanelled: Asa McLATCHY, Richard JONAH, John P. BEATTY and Asa JONAH. Peter DUFFY was chosed foreman. (see original for testimonies of Mrs. W.E. Dryden, John JONAH, Trueman JONAH, George ABBINETT, Frank GILLESPIE) The follow verdict was given: The said John Dryden, who was found dead in his bed on Saturday March 17th, had no marks appearing on his body, but by the visitation of God in a natural way did die.

Hillsboro (Albert Co.) March 20 - The funeral service of John Wesley DRYDEN was conducted yesterday, Rev. John C. Berrie and Rev. Wellington Camp taking part in that at home and the Free Masons conducting that at the grave. Mr. Dryden was out and about on Friday, returned that night at his usual hour and though not well there was not any reason for apprehension. Mrs. Hensely DRYDEN went to his room and found him sleeping. Returning an hour later she found him dead. Coroner Dr. Marven was summoned and an inquest held and a verdict died of heart failure was the result. Mr. Dryden was 77 years of age, a man of marked individuality, a first-class carpenter by trade and one of Hillsboro's oldest inhabitants.
