Mrs. E. Langstaff, Augusta
On Sunday, at the residence of her son, William, Prescott, after an illness of but forty-eight hours, there passed away to her reward one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Grenville County, in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Langstaff.
The deceased was born in the township of Augusta eighty-two years ago, daughter of the late Hugh Ackland, and had resided in Grenville County all her long life. For several years past she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs Alexander of Bishop's Mills and was visiting with her son, William, Prescott, when the angel of death recalled her to her Father's home. Her husband, the late John Langstaff, predeceased her some years ago. She leaves eight sons and three daughters to mourn the loss of a loving parent, namely, William of Prescott; Samuel, North Dakota; John of Rainy River; Dudley, of Biggar, Sask; Stannage, of Spencerville; Albert, Kemptville; Shanley, Augusta; Edwin, Lowell, Mass; Mrs. Alexander, Bishop's Mills; Mrs. B. Hoy, Calgary; and Mrs. John Warren, North Augusta.
The funeral took place on Tuesday from the residence of her son at Prescott to St. Andrew's church where the service was held by Rev. Code, North Augusta, interment taking place at Garreton cemetery. Among the relatives from a distance who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Orr, New York state. The pallbearers were five of her sons and Mr. J. Warren, son-in-law.4

Samuel Hugh Langstaff died on 27 March 1918, at Michigan, North Dakota, USA. He was Fact 1 in 2004 at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND; S. H. and Mary Langstaff from Nelson County History
Submitted by Laura (Langstaff) Bonde, daughter. No date for when submitted.

S.H. came from eastern Canada in the early 1880s and homesteaded in Williams Township, building one of the first frame houses in the area. He was a "carpenter by trade" as they said in those days. He and his brother built the house now standing on the land. This house was built in 1908.

Most of the settlers started farming with oxen but S. H. had horses. By 1883 he had complied with the homesteading laws and the land was legally his by 1888.

In 1890 he married Mary Jane Bryce. To this union nine were born: Ed, Allen, Peter, Lottie Nelson (all deceased) and four boys died in infancy, and Laura Bonde, only one of family living.

In 1916 S. H. had a sale and moved to Michigan, N.D., and owned the home now owned by Maynard Flom.

Several renters farmed the homestead farm until 1926 when Clarence and Laura (Langstaff) Bonde started farming the land which kept it in the family. Cameron Bonde, grandson of S.H., now lives and farms there.

Michigan is 40 km straight accross country to Conway, ND.

Langstaff - Kidd
Yesterday one of Kemptville's enterprising business men in the person of A. Langstaff, of the firm of Anderson & Langstaff, entered into another partnership. At the noon hour in Christ's Church at Burritt's Rapids, he led to Hyman's alter Miss Edith, eldest daughter of T.A. Kidd. The ceremony was performed by the retiring rector, Rev. Mr. Roberts. The happy couple took the evening train for the east and will spend a week or two in viewing the sights of Montreal and Quebec. That their journey all through life may be a very happy one is the sincere wish of THE ADVANCE and their many friends.

Albert Dudley Langstaff was Extracts from Kemptville Past and Present, 1903, J. Carr Anderson, page 78, in the context of 'Anderson & Langstaff, General Merchandise':

"This is one of the largest and most important mercantile establishments in Kemptville and is well and favourably known throughout the entire locality tributary to it.
The location, Prescott St., opposite Asa, is one of the oldest on the south side, having been occupied first by Thomas Baldwin about 1850 as a cabinet shop and later as a general store. His son Henry, succeeded to the business and carried on a general store for many years. Thomas Christie and Thomas and the late William Blackburn, under the name of Christie & Blackburn, conducted a general store for some time. About 40 years ago the late Andrew Blackburn took over the business and under the name of A. Blackburn and A. Blackburn & Co., conducted a very large and successful business for 20 years. The original building was destroyed in the great fire of 1872 and was replaced by the present magnificent brick building which in Mr. Blackburn's time served as a store and residence but which is now all utilized for commercial purposes.
About twenty-one years ago Mr. Anderson, then a young man, entered the firm as an employee. Having all the elements of a successful salesman, he gradually ascended the rungs of the ladder until he stood at the head of the list and became so well known as a successful salesman that when the firm of Andrew Blackburn & Co., gave up business, Mr. Anderson was selected as the successor. ...................
In 1897 the business of the firm had increased so largely that Mr. Anderson was compelled to look for a partner who would divide his responsibility and assist him in managing his constantly increasing business. This he found in the person of Mr. Langstaff, who had for many years been manager for T.A. Kidd who conducted a similar business in Burritts Rapids................ in 1903, at, Grenville, .4 He was associated in 1917 at Member of the Orange Lodge, , .5
