Thomas Langstaff was born on 4 April 1764, at, Durham, , England. At Unstable, never married; Known as Maister Tommy, and was manager of Coppy Crooks Colliery. Supposedly a clever mathametician, but prone to fits of depression. In one fit he cut his throat with a razor in the home of his siter Mrs. Clark, with whom he was living.1 He was the son of George II Langstaff and Elizabeth Kilburn.1
