Henrich "Henry Gatemann was born in 1816, at, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. ; Three brothers, Christian, Heinrich and Frederick Gateman came to Canada from Mecklenburg, Germany. Christian and his wife Margot came to Brant Township in 1853 and took up crown land on Lot 27 Concession 4, Brant Twp. Henri and his wife Fredericka and his five children came to take up Crown Land in Brant Township on Lot 31 Concession 5 in 1857. Frederick and his wife Mina did not arrive until 1871, they brought their three children with them and had more family after their arrival.¹
