Bessie Florence Franks was Twins born; Died at birth(from Mary Ruth Moon, Ap. 1999).
Bessie Florence Franks The various names came from various sources which I do not remember. The name Roberts is on her head stone in the Rainy River Cemetery, along with years of birth and death. Her grandson Randy wrote me Dec 1998 and explained that she was born out of wedlock and that the name Arseneault probable is that of her Uncle Basil (he apparently raised her as a child). This makes sense when one thinks of the many foster children that Aunt Flo raised in her home or merely gave a home to for a short time. I know this to be true as this happened during my youth in Rainy River.

Ruth Boisseneault has her listed as Franks with Roberts in brackets.

When Florence died, Ruth B. was in Montserrat, BVI, visiting her husband Roy's sister.

The two boys Arthur and Allen were identical twins. It appears that at this time Florence and Albert were living in International Falls, Minn.

Mary Anne Johnston was described as being originally from the Ottawa area and moved to Rat Portage (Kenora) in the late 1800's (according to Ruth Langstaff, (Boisseault)). Records show them in Norman or Rat Portage as of 1894. There they owned a livery stable, blacksmith, but Allen John also made wagons etc.

She and Allen John were living in Rainy River in 1910 and there also owned a livery stable. The big fire of that era took everything they owned including a piano that was played by one of their sons Albert (E. Jack remembers that the family of Albert was always involved with music). After the fire Mary apparently took up the job of house work or maid and cook for some of the well to do people in the town (Mrs. Pat Tyne and Mrs. Parker, (these were still big names and supposedly wealthy people when I was a kid in Rainy River, E. Jack). The pay was very small and the hours were long and the work was all manual i.e. very hard. She apparently walked over a mile to their houses even thouh she had a hammer toe, which was I guess painfull. The hammer toe required her to wrap it up in some way to her ankle that allowed her to walk in some sort of comfort.

She also grew a garden that included sweet peas, nasturiums. Their house only had a back yard privy and well, and the grass was cut by Adolph Gunderson, who would marry her daugher Gertrude. E. Jack knew the family and their children as they remained in Rainy River.

Mary Anne's sister Sophie Torrance ran a hotel in Norman, Ont. On July 8, 1999 I found the following information about the hotel, owner W. G. Torrance Norman, Ont. year 1905. This came from the North-west Gazateer and Directory, Part 2 Volume XXIV (National Library).)

She died on Aug. 18, 1929 of three strokes. She was staying at the time with Albert and Florence Langstaff since Allen John was away at their homestead where he was growing oats for the horses. Ruth (Boissoneault) was with her at the time and Florence Langstaff was hemming curtains for Aunt Ruth (Moon).

Apparently her husband (Allen John) was a good carpenter as well since he made furniture for her from mahogany, This is from Ruth Langstaff (Boissoneault). As well the family was very close. Ruth writes that she remembers the family life well as she was the eldest of the grandchildren (and a little spoiled because of it).

George Arthur Moon was born on 9 July 1891, at, Hastings ON, . He was the son of Albert E. Moon and Mary Johnson.
George Arthur Moon married Ruth Agatha Langstaff, daughter of Allan John Langstaff and Mary Anne Johnston, on 8 January 1914, at #19222, St. Jame's Church, , . George was 21 years old a brakeman born Madoc, ON and Methodist and Ruth was 17 years old born Kenora, an Anglican. Ruth was not yet 18 so mother had to give her consent.
Wit: Ruth's Grandparents, A. j. Langstaff and his wife just listed as Mrs. A. J. Langstaff.
Minister J. Lofthouse (later Bishop).1
George Arthur Moon George Moon it appears at one time lived in the old house in Rainy River that was next to McQuarrie's store. Ruth Boiseneault told me (Sep. 13 1998) that George put on the kitchen addition and the side door to a verandah that went all around to the front of the house, and that there was a vacant lot between this houseand in those days people still kept animals and George kept Rhode Island Red chickens.

The entire Moon family is buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Madoc Township, Q-H-1129. Visited the cemetery on Feb. 24, 1999. Found the stones near the back of the cemetery and in about the middle . Through a Art and Barb West (ph:613-473-1544) who live inMadoc, I was able to get the phone number of Susan Moon (their daughter-in-law), and the name and address of Albert's (Ab's) wife in London, Ont. She is now married to a Doug Bentley.

George Moon originally worked for the CNR as a car toad or carman. They walked around the train knocking on wheels and checking the air hose connections and looking for hot journal bearings (also repacking bearings if need be). He then worked as a customs and excise officer in Rainy before transferring to the Corbyville distillery outside Belleville(in 1936, according to Mary Ruth Moon). Ruth did not want to move according to Ruth Boisseneault, but I think George's family came from that area originally and he wanted to return. circa 1925, at, .2
George Arthur Moon died on 20 November 1960, at Belleville Gen. Hospital, , Hastings, . Was living in Marmora at the time.
George's obituary reads:

Albert Allan Moon was born on 19 June 1920, at, . ; According to Ruth Boisseneault, Albert was 4 years younger that means he was born in 1920. This is true as of Feb. 24, 1999, when I visited his grave in Lakeview Cemetery, Madoc, Ont. The stone only gave his birth and death year.

Albert did visit Rainy when his son Gary was a small child because Lorraine remembers him as he could not talk well yet and called himself Gina Moon. He was about 3 years old at the time, as Lorraine remembers. Irene told me this was really 1954.

Albert ran a Supertest Filling station (as they were called in the 1950's) in Marmora.

Albert died from heart trouble, after being divorced from his wife. He apparently had had many attacks, the first coming as young as age 28. He had a very serious cornory thrombosis in 1954 and was not expected to survive. He also had a drinking problem and although Irene states he was a good husband to her and the children, but she did leave him.1 He was the son of George Arthur Moon and Ruth Agatha Langstaff.
Albert Allan Moon died on 15 June 1976, at Belleville General Hospital, , Hastings, .

Edward Arthur Krienke Eddy and Emma did live in Wash. for a while according to Oran (Aug. 22, 1999) as he thinks they came back to Sask. by Ox team. This is quite possible, since Amelia died in Wash. on 19 April 1907 just six weeks after Eddy and Emma's marriage in Lemburg. As Eddy was living at home up to then I assume he returned after the wedding or at least for the funeral.

From Walter's writing, he claims he visited Eddy and Emma in Newport, Wash. and the date was Mar/Apr 1909.

Eddy had an affair with an Emma Shaw (more than an affair I guess as they lived together the rest of their lives). Emma Shaw was the mother of Art Krienke's wife Mildred. This happened just before, or was the cause of Gramma Krienke (Emma, as well) moving to Fort Frances. It is possible other relatives were already there since Wendell gave me a picture of Art and Mildred on their farm in Pinewood taken in 1931. In the end Art and his family and Dorothea, Freeman and Emma Krienke all ended up in Fort Frances, and the two groups did not speak to each other over the affair. Wendell told me (Jan 99) that it disrupted his family as well and it was not until after Eddy's death in 1964 that he visited with his Grandmother Emma Shaw (several other visits took place until her death in 1978).

Eddy, later in life, worked in a sawmill in Sask. and when the mill was moved to Creston, B.C. he moved with it. At this time he was still with Emma Shaw. I have her name as Emma, but it seems when she was with Eddy she went by "Lil". It seems they did have children.

From a letter written by an Aunt Luella.

Edward Krienke was born in the USA on the 15 of March 1885 (we have the date as the 11th). He filed on a homestead (in the Southey area) N.E. in June 1910, and also got the N.W. quarter section. He had moved here with his wife Emma and two sons, Art and Henry. They lived in a sod house for the first year (I think longer, judging by the picture of Dorothea). In the fall Ed would go to Southey, Sask. and help with the harvest, as he had relatives and friends living there.
Ed and Emma and the rest of the family left the homestead around 1915 and moved to Southey. According to the archives in June 1927 a letter from the Dept. of Agriculturere commended that ED. Krienke of Sylvannia Sask. be permitted to cancel his homestead status so that he could apply for another homestead in the Sylvannia area.
In 1955 Edward was living in Creston, B.C. *see above) as he applied for proof of age in order to apply for Old Age Pension.
Edward and Emma had four children, Art, Henry, Dorothea and Freeman. The two eldest attended Bissett school while living at their first homestead. Bissett school is about 8 miles from our old farm in Simmie. This is written of in my Simmie book of 900 pages. Have you any idea who they are? they must have been related to Albert (your Dad).
It doesn't say where he (Edward) was born in the USA. (Someone wrote in Portland, N.D.)

Letter is then signed "Aunt Luella".
Edward Arthur Krienke married Emma "Lil" (?).

Edward Arthur Krienke appears on the on 1 June 1880 census for at enumerator M.W. Wilson, Kinnickimick, St. Croix, WI.1
